Help of Beaufort through St. John's Lutheran Church

We participate with other churches in the community with HELP of Beaufort, to respond to those who need assistance. St. John's has been supporting HELP of Beaufort for a long time.

HELP of Beaufort is the largest all volunteer organization in Beaufort County that provides direct service to those in need. HELP accepts referrals from local churches, the Department of Social Services, the EOC, and other established agencies.

An initiative of the Social Ministries Committee is to re-energize that support. One way is to collect food and personal items on the fourth Sunday of each month. Of course, you can drop items off in the narthex ANYTIME.

Please bring nonperishable items such as:

*rice                    *canned meat and vegetables           *toilet paper
*grits                   *boxed macaroni & cheese                *bar soap
          *dry cereal          *powdered laundry detergent

Leave the items on (or around) the credenza next to the nursery.

Other Services provided by HELP:

  • FOOD, given on referral only, on an emergency basis to families and individuals.
  • CLOTHING for those in need and for victims of fire.
  • FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE, given on referral only, for rent/mortgage, utility bills, gas, prescriptions, and temporary emergency housing.
  • MOBILE MEALS for disabled or otherwise homebound individuals who are unable to cook for themselves, delivered by volunteer drivers who donate the use of their cars and pay for their own gas.
  • CHRISTMAS BASKETS of food are provided to 50-75 families, and Mobile Meal clients receive a Christmas gift.
While HELP always appreciates food and clothing donations, there is and immediate need for financial contributions.

Donations may be made to Help Mobile Meals P.O.Box 472, Beaufort, SC 29901, or you can include donations with your offering designated “Help Mobile Meals”.

You can also volunteer your time at the HELP facility on Baggett Street in downtown Beaufort.
