St. John's Lutheran Rubbish Rustlers
Around the year 2004, St. John's decided to become a part of the Adopt-A-Highway Program with the South Carolina Department of Transportation.
The agreement is to pick up litter along Lady's Island Drive, from Rue Du Bose to the McTeer Bridge 12 times a year - once a month.
Mike Masters started the group and named it "Rubbish Rustlers." Then Hank Cuthbert handled it for several years. The program was stopped when construction started on the new lanes on McTeer Bridge and widening of Lady's Island Drive.
With the McTeer Bridge and road construction on Lady's Island Drive now complete, St. John's Lutheran has renewed our earlier agreement to take part in the Adopt-A-Highway Program with the South Carolina Department of Transportation.
We will be picking up the trash the second Saturday of each odd month at 8:30 AM.

General Questions:
About how long does it normally take?
............. This depends on the number of people working and how much trash is out there. It has taken anywhere from 1 1/2 to 3 hours.
What do we need to bring?
............. Vests, and tongs or grabbers will be furnished. Highly recommend that each person bring their own gloves. Those that are furnished as rather flimsy and would not give much protection.
