50 years ago a handful of faithful Lutheran Christians saw the need for a congregation in Beaufort, South Carolina. Through daily prayer and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, on October 25, 1953, St. John's Lutheran Church was formally organized in the parish house of St. Helena Episcopal Church. Just three years later, June 17, 1956, a church building on Ribaut Road was dedicated. An average worship attendance of 40 in 1953 with one single service being offered, has now grown to two worship services with an average attendance of 175. Once again the Holy Spirit moved the people of St. John's. St John's started the process of building a larger worship space to better equip the members to do the ministries our Lord asks of us.  After almost two years of sharing a church building with another congregation, then onto an auditorium for worship services, our Family Life Center is built.  Our first service was on September 16, 2001.  It was a memorable service not only because of the 9-11 attacks, but also that we were able to worship and give glory to God for all that he has done. March 9, 2003 St John's will be adding a second worship opportunity on Sunday mornings. On October 12th, St John's celebrated their 50th Anniversary with Bishop Donges presiding. It was an exciting celebration!
