St. John's Lutheran Church Youth Fundraiser

ELCA Youth Gathering - New Orleans, July 2012

It is with great excitement that we announce that 11 youth and 4 adults are going to attend the ELCA Youth Gathering in New Orleans in July 2012. Please keep the following in your prayers as they prepare for this trip:

youth
  • Christopher Bockelman
  • Justice Mullen
  • Bethany Johnson
  • Reilly Kilpatrick
  • Emily Hutchins
  • Mindy Cole
  • Ashley Gearhart
  • Connor Lundgaard
  • Jessa Norton
  • Chris Gertis
  • John Robinson (from Lord of Life)
  • Pastor Shannon
  • Roger & Laura Holley
  • Amy Hamilton
  • The cost of the entire trip - transportation, lodging, food, and registration - is about $1,000 per person. Each person attending and their families have committed to contributing a significant sum. Thrivent will also be contributing funds. The youth will be conducting three fundraisers over the course of the year to raise the balance from members of the congregation and community. We thank you in advance for helping send these youth to this life changing event!

The first fundraiser was a Spaghetti Dinner at the regular Wednesday Nights Together, on November 9, 2012, at 5:30 pm. The youth going to the Gathering and their families hosted this dinner with entertainment. Cost was a minimum donation of $5.00.

At this dinner, the second fundraiser was kicked off ....The Terrible Traveling Toilet! Yes, the youth decorated a wonderful old toilet (donated by the Bockelman family!) -- and it just could show up in your front yard!!

We took sealed donations the night of the Spaghetti Dinner. Whoever made the largest donation to the group got to choose whose yard the toilet goes to first. If you would like to assure that this toilet does not show up in your yard, you can still purchase Insurance. (We invite those of you who live in gated communities to purchase insurance - or to help us sneak the toilet into your yard!)

If the toilet does land in your yard, you will be asked to make a donation to have it removed, and you get to say who the next victim is. We hope this will be a fun way of getting the entire congregation involved in our quest to raise the money for our trip!

Click here for the St. John's John Patrol report.

So far, we have raised a total of $1463.00 toward the trip.
