St. John's Lutheran Church is a proud host congregation with Family Promise of Beaufort County. St. John's hosts families quarterly in order to support the Mission of Family Promise of Beaufort County. St. Mark's Epsicopal Church, St. Peter's Catholic Church, and Lady's Island Baptist Church help support St. John's in this effort.
Family Promise of Beaufort County is an interfaith non-profit 501(c)(3), organization committed to helping low-income families achieve lasting independence. We help families accomplish this by providing shelter, meals, and support services for homeless families, and through programs designed to redress the underlying causes of homelessness.
The sad fact is the average age of the homeless is none years old, and 60% of the participants of Family Promise are children. Not exactly the population we think of when we think of the homeless.
Nationally there are 5000 congregations and more than 120,000 volunteers who help with this worthy ministry. The families receive training for job and money management so they can become self-sustaining. 80% of the families in the program move on to long-term housing.
Family Promise was founded on the belief that one homeless child is too many. We believe that the citizens of Beaufort County are compassionate people who want to make a difference. As the 131st Family Promise affiliate in the nation, our mission is to link those in need with those who want to help. Volunteers are needed during each hosting week, to provide meals and friendship to our guests.
Please contact Perry Dukes, Candace Camp, or Ann Nizzi with questions or if you would like to become a volunteer.
